How to make transparent graffiti PNGs

Tagvoro · Updated October 18, 2026

To place lettering over a photograph, poster or social graphic, you usually want a PNG without the wall behind it. This guide uses Tagvoro’s actual transparent-background option and explains how to export it, check it and keep the effects you need.

Export a transparent PNG in four steps

  1. Enter a short word, name or number and choose a style. For numbers, supported formats include 007, 3-1 and 07/14.
  2. Choose Transparent under Background. The preview’s checkerboard marks the clear area; it is not written into your image.
  3. Adjust color, glow, shadow and paint drips. For a clean outline, start with glow and shadow off; turn them back on when you want a softer neon-like edge.
  4. Click Download PNG. The default is 1200 × 900 pixels. Enable Crop and choose a 0, 16, 32 or 64 pixel margin to trim around artwork including glow and shadow. Preview and download use the same image; exact dimensions appear beside the button.

Transparent is different from a white background

White wall is a painted background with color and texture, so it covers the photo beneath it. A transparent PNG uses alpha to describe how clear each pixel is, allowing the underlying image to show through. Both files can end in .png, so the extension alone does not prove that the background is transparent.

Place your PNG on another design

Open your own background in an image editor that supports layers and transparency, then import the downloaded PNG as a layer above it. Scale proportionally and account for the clear space around the letters. Keep PNG rather than resaving as JPG, which cannot preserve alpha. Check the dark outline on the real background at its final display size.

The download is a raster image, not editable text or an SVG vector. Enlarging it beyond its source size can soften the edges; 1200 × 900 pixels does not guarantee suitability for every print size.

Does the download look opaque?

  • Some image viewers display clear areas against white or black. Place the file over a contrasting layer to check it.
  • Confirm that Transparent, rather than White wall, was selected before downloading. Changing the website’s background later does not update an older downloaded file.
  • Glow and shadow include partly transparent pixels, so their soft edges are not completely clear. Toggle both off to compare a crisper boundary.
  • Use the download button rather than a screenshot. A screenshot captures the visible checkerboard and interface too.
